A poem from On Driftwood and Oblivion
Children’s smiles spread to the men
Who presented joy
After a long nightmare’s sleep
To the girls and boys.
Tanks, raged as a flood
Across the snow-covered fields
Now stained with their blood.
This is a Seguidilla based on a true event that took place on December 5, 1944 in Wiltz. For the entire story I recommend reading American St. Nick: A True Story.
